Accessibility and Inclusion

The Toowoomba Wellcamp Airport Running Festival welcomes participants, supporters and visitors of all ages, backgrounds and abilities. Events Management Queensland is committed to creating a respectful and inclusive event experience and to working with individuals who may require additional information or reasonable assistance to participate or attend.

Choosing the right event
The Festival offers the ASICS Half Marathon, Visit Toowoomba Region 10km, Grand Central 5km and 1 Mile, providing a range of participation options for different levels of experience and fitness. Participants should review the current event guide, course information and cut-off requirements before entering to select the event most suited to their circumstances. In particular, the course elevation (hills) should be factored into decision making about the races participants choose.

Planning your visit
The Festival is held in and around the Toowoomba CBD, with courses using public roads, pathways and park areas. Conditions and access arrangements may vary across the event precinct and courses. The event has accessible parking, drop-off, toilet, and viewing-area. Maps are available closer to each event. Visitors who require detailed access information are encouraged to contact the event team before race weekend so the most current information can be provided.

Accessibility arrangements and event participation
Participants with disability, reduced mobility, a medical condition, sensory or communication needs, or other accessibility requirements are encouraged to contact the event team before entering, or as early as possible before the event. The team will discuss individual requirements and any reasonable arrangements that may help the participant take part safely and confidently.

The Festival recognises the Companion Card and can facilitate race entry for a companion where a participant requires support to take part. Participants should contact the event team once the participants entry is finalized so companion details can be registered.

Day wheelchairs are permitted in all festival races. Because the courses include steep inclines and declines, participants are strongly encouraged to contact the event team before entering so their selected race and start arrangements can be discussed with the Race Director. For safety, wheelchair participants are encouraged to attach a visible flag and begin at the rear of the field. Experienced wheelchair participants may discuss starting in the zone that reflects their anticipated finish time.

Prams are permitted in the Visit Toowoomba Region 10km and Grand Central 5km, but are not permitted in the ASICS Half Marathon. Participants with prams must start at the rear of the field in Start Zone C. A child travelling in a pram only requires a separate event entry if the family would like the child to receive participant rewards such as a race number and finisher medal.

Children and families
The Festival provides additional support for younger participants. In the Junior Mile, one parent or guardian may accompany a child on course without an additional entry fee where the family considers this necessary. The accompanying adult receives a specific access pass and must start with the child towards the rear of the field.
A controlled Junior Recovery Area operates after the race. Each child’s race pack includes one parent recovery-area access pass so an authorised adult can collect the child safely. In the Grand Central 5km, entrants under 12 years of age must be accompanied by a registered adult.

Accessible information and communication
Event information is published through the festival website, participant communications and event guide. People who have difficulty accessing information in the published format may request assistance or an alternative format by contacting the event team. Questions are welcomed, and the team will work to provide clear information about the visitor journey from registration and arrival through to race day and departure.

Supporters and spectators
Supporters and spectators are an important part of the festival experience. Anyone with accessibility requirements is encouraged to plan ahead and contact the event team for the most current information about the event precinct, viewing areas and movement around temporary road closures.
